A GOLDEN HOUR COLOR PALETTE

Glamorous Eveningwear Aesthetics for 2025 from Top Luxury Designers

After several seasons of embracing minimalism, modernism, and functional design, maximalism is making a significant comeback in the fashion world. For 2025, five glamorous evening aesthetics are reigning supreme on the runway, with top luxury designers embracing everything from sparkling embellishments to sculptural silhouettes.

Maximalism

As every Zuhair Murad bride knows, the designer’s aesthetic is the epitome of glamour and embellishment. This season, the fashion house has several maximalist-friendly eveningwear looks, including two long-sleeved mini dresses covered in sparkles – both, which would be perfect for a bride’s reception or afterparty dress.

For full-length options, the Fall 2025 collection showcases some exquisite evening gowns, ranging from all-black ensembles with silver embellishments, to a two-piece look with structured shoulders, to elegantly draped dresses. Balancing maximalism with classic shapes, these gowns are as apropos for a black-tie formal wedding as they are for a red-carpet event.

Lavender’s Blue

As an alternative to the classic black evening gown, Tony Ward’s latest collection brings color to the forefront with romantic shades of lilac and periwinkle. Romantic draping, peek-a-boo panels, dazzling overlays, and regal peplums add an extra layer of glamour.

Bold Graphics

Bold graphics and geometric shapes take center stage in Elie Saab and Rami Al Ali’s eveningwear collections. Playing with a neutral color palette of black, white, and cream, these designs offer both classic silhouettes and experimental structures, so there’s something for everyone. A black and white tunic and wide-legged trouser combo from Elie Saab is a fresh take on menswear inspired looks, and would be a chic pick for rehearsal dinners.

Oversized ruffles featured in Rami Al Ali’s collection create an ultra-feminine aesthetic. For the Wedding Style team, it was love at first sight when it came to the designer’s multi-bow mini skirt dress. Crafted from a beige Mikado satin and adorned with crystal embellishments at the waist, it’s the perfect bridal shower or afterparty dress for brides in search of something playful, yet refined.

Power Players

Stephane Rolland, Rami Kadi, and Lena Erziak’s contributions to this season’s eveningwear trends were made for the power players out there – the brides and guests who wish to make an entrance, hold court, and revel in the spotlight. The Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture collection by Stephane Rolland, for example, features an all-black suit with a black velvet jacket and wide collar embroidered with black feathers. Inspired by historic figures like Josephine Baker and Brancusi, this aesthetic is anything but demure; it’s a celebration of expression, a pioneering spirit, and all things avant-garde.

For Rami Kadi, this season is all about celebrating women “as a force of storytelling and connection across eras.” Inspired by the Baroque and Rococo periods, these gowns reflect the glamour of a lush, regency aesthetic paired with contemporary sophistication.

If a bride-to-be wishes to expand beyond the typical mood of a bridal wardrobe – which tends to be light and romantic – then Lena Erziak’s Fall/Winter 2024-2025 collection is a stunning option. Named “Melancholia,” this dark and vampy lineup of evening gowns is an “ode to the complexity of human emotions, capturing the duality between darkness and lightness, nostalgia and beauty.”

Heavy Metal

Beloved fashion designer, Monique Lhuillier, takes a high-shine approach to this season’s eveningwear looks with a collection heavy on metallics and light-reflecting embellishments. Some Wedding Style favorites include a strapless evening gown made of luxurious gold brocade, and a silver column gown covered with hundreds of hand-cut mirrors. When in doubt, this glamorous aesthetic is one that will always look (and photograph) beautifully on the dance floor.

GLAMOROUS LOOKS – SPRING 2025

FALLING FOR NEUTRALS – FALL/WINTER 2023 EVENING COUTURE

Neutrals took center stage on this season’s catwalks, with the Fall/Winter 2023/2024 evening couture aesthetic being a sophisticated glamorous, and vampy mix of black lace, nude tones, and structured shapes. Brides-to-be and bridesmaids alike may draw fashion inspiration from these evening couture collections, as they present some showstopping options for rehearsal dinners, receptions, afterparties, and any special occasion.

Zuhair Murad Evening Couture

The FW 23/24 evening wear collection by Zuhair Murad is dark, glamorous, sophisticated, and has an air of mystery to it. Think “Edgar Allen Poe-meets-Garden of Eden.” Sheer fabrics break up the all-black gowns with daring flashes of skin, tempered by romantic corsetry and floral details. These black lace showstoppers practically beg to be worn on the red carpet, while silver embellished ensembles would be the ultimate wedding afterparty look.

Elie Saab Evening Couture

Cloaked in glamour, this season’s evening couture picks from Elie Saab are a stunning ode to medieval fashion influences. Brides and grooms alike may opt for a cloaked look, which is becoming more popular amongst couples who opt for a pre-wedding photo shoot or destination engagement session.

The color palette of black, blush, and taupe are a stunning complement to the intricate beading, embellishments, and textures.

It takes an exceptionally unique perspective to bring a fresh take to the classic black and white evening gown, but Stephane Rolland has risen to the occasion. The designer’s current haute couture collection is a stunning display of pleating, architecture, drapery, and universally flattering silhouettes.

Evening gowns with fitted black bodices and voluminous white skirts are absolutely exquisite, while his caftan gown in black wool gazar is a refreshingly wearable interpretation of evening couture.

Ashi Studio Evening Couture

Always one to create the next chapter of showstopping evening gowns, Ashi Studio’s Fall-Winter 2023 couture collection was inspired by Patrick Suskind’s novel, Perfume.

With a focus on black and nude tones, the couturier approaches dressing as “undressing” this season, with the intention of extracting the essence of couture.

“Passion, obsession, and mystery permeate dramatic silhouettes, embodying the visceral quest for the ultimate expression of art,” the team describes. “Embroidery, beading, and coppery threads – a nod to the equipment used in perfumery – give evening looks an evanescent shimmer. A bare back heightens the contradiction between secrets and disclosure.”

Rami Al Ali Evening Couture

For a lighter take on neutrals, Rami Al Ali’s lineup of evening couture features mermaid cut gowns, evening jackets, flowing mousseline, statement bows, gold tweed, and crystal beads. Modern yet timeless, these evening gown picks are suitable for everyone from a maid of honor to a mother-of-the-bride.

Paris couture

The Spring 2023 couture season was one to take note of, presenting a fleet of collections that deeply represented fusing couture craftsmanship of the past with modern-day execution.

Many designers found their collections influenced by pinnacle artistic voices that have transcended from the past into the present, interpreting their once-complicated lives and intricate works of art into designs that were rich with opulence, power and femininity.

There were trends that seemed to transcend throughout each of the designers' visions, appearing in moments of intricate hand-beading, molded silhouettes, stunning pastels and physically defying structure. It was avant-garde, at times mesmerizing, and undoubtedly an absolute fantasy of artistry that left all of us whirling and eager for what designs are to come in the future.

Elie Saab

We start with Elie Saab, whose collection, “A Golden Dawn”, was immediately gasp-worthy upon the opening look - a sheer gold cape and mid-length dress swirling with gold embroidered paisley lace and gold crystals - shimmering with opulence and quickly having everyone on the edge of their seats.

This season, Elie Saab looked to capture a truly extravagant celebration fit for royalty. Inspired by the remarkable beauty of Thailand, he focused on the nature and rituals that are deeply rooted within the country and transformed them into incredible works of art.

His vision was depicted in every aspect of the collection. It could be seen in the sunset hues and water-like colorways of the lavish gowns and silk crepe bows, the mermaid silhouettes and scalloped hems, the abstract depictions of koi fish and dragons dancing on dramatic coats, and of course, the intricate detail work of thousands of sequins, pearls and beads displaying three-dimensional florals rounding out a truly exquisite showing this season.

Ashi Studio

Ashi’s Spring 2023 collection is named “Moonlight and Dust” stemming from the epic tale of Penelope and Orion, two lovers set a world apart. As the story goes, Penelope feverishly gathers dust and ashes in order to create a mountain so she can reach the moon to be with Orion, which proved to provide ample inspiration for the nearly divine and seemingly wind-swept creations that ascended the runway.

“Amplified silhouettes”, as the show notes call them, must have begun in what we can only imagine having been a fantasy. Silks and satins were manipulated into works of artistic expression, creating skirts, sleeves and necklines that were flowing with organic lines creating an almost wave-like appearance. When silhouettes weren’t exaggerated with volume, they were body conscious, with waists often corseted and swathed in head-to-toe crystals. No matter the silhouette, the entire collection received an exuberant amount of embellishment that included cascading waves of ruffled lace and feather-trimmed tassels, yet remained harmonious from one creation to the next.

Another couture season undoubtedly provides us with another chance to experience Giambattista Valli’s, now signature, tulle-filled designs, however, for Spring 2023, this jubilant spirit that is often reserved for his closing looks was instead presented to us from start to finish, painting a literal rainbow of designs focused on escapism and we were happy to be along for the ride.

The candy-coated color scheme was applied throughout the exaggerated voluminous silhouettes - most often presented in ballgown skirts and off-the-shoulder princess sleeves - yet, even when detailed with bows and rosettes, remained modern and of-the-moment due to flashes of skin seen in higher hemlines, peek-a-boo cut-outs, fitted bodices and sweetheart necklines. 

Another flood of inspirational styles came from a series of crystal-encrusted catsuits, full-length feather coats and beautifully draped silk-chiffon gowns that were masterfully wrapped around the models bodies, providing a drastic alternative from the gowns that surrounded them and an overall balance to this dreamlike collection.

zuhair murad

The French Riviera is not an uncommon resource of inspiration for designers but it is a plentiful one. And while it isn’t typical of Zuhair Murad to use it as a reference, his take on the modern-day young heiress and the lives they lead in Belle-Époque - riding on vespas, taking in the sunset from their chateau balconies and evening cocktails in the garden - it became an obvious choice for the always glitzy designer.

There’s a lot that stands out in Zuhair’s Spring 2023 couture collection, starting with the first five looks. Stark white with fabulous accents - feathered gloves, long silk head-scarves, crystal caged trousers and uber chic wide-brimmed hates - it was the perfect lead into what was the beginning of a collection filled with 1970’s inspired looks, (by way of the 1920’s), that was equally elegant and glamorous. The collection then cascaded into a sunset vision of colors - fuchsia, canary yellow, sea green and pale blue - in flowing silk chiffons that romantically draped around each model, highlighted with architectural-inspired embroideries as well as feather trims and bodices encrusted with jewels.

A mention in the show notes about a time before the pandemic truly permeated each piece as they all symbolized celebration in the most prolific way, showcasing decadent style for any occasion.

DIOR

Josephine Baker was the guiding light for Maria Grazia Chiuri’s SP23 couture collection, reflecting not only the French-American’s style and vigor as she sang on the stages of Carnegie Hall, but her life as a role model, breaking boundaries as she redefined the idea of who a pioneer and activist could be. This inspiration was also felt off the runway thanks to the incredible floor-to-ceiling portrait work displayed on the walls by artist, Mickalene Thomas.

What began as a peek into the cabaret stars’ dressing room in the form of elegant velvet dressing robes and satin lingerie, continuously morphed into modern interpretations of 1920s silhouettes - languid and glamorous - displaying an array of embellishments and beadwork that while plentiful, was so precisely executed that it appeared both understated yet impactful, a skill Chiuri has truly mastered.

Without fail, the classic 1950s Dior silhouette appeared, juxtaposing looks that were more subtly seductive by means of monochrome suiting such as double-breasted jackets and shin-grazing wide-legged trousers in heavier fabrications, but remained cohesive due to the overall tonal palette of the collection - an homage to the energy felt from the black and white films and photographs featuring Baker. 

VALENTINO

A nightclub deemed “Le Club Couture” set the scene for Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Spring 2023 show, creating an atmosphere filled with designs that provided both the club kids and ladies-who-lunch with a singular collection in order to fulfill their desire to transform into whomever they wish to be.

Playful and bold with a little bit of everything mixed in, Piccioli continued the trend of exaggerated silhouettes and excess that we saw so much of this couture season. There were zoot suit-inspired blazers paired with barely there bottoms, while oversized collars and ballooned skirts came to life as they were often accessorized with tiers of ruffles and bows or embellished with large paillettes, crystals and feathers that flourished as the models stomped the runway. 

His mastery of color was not to be missed as Piccioli took to mixing pieces together that were somehow complimentary even if they fell far from one another on the color wheel. There were grand splashes of neon, sherbet, mint and of course PP Pink while metallics and neutral tones of black and white grounded everything together, allowing the collection to breathe without losing focus on having fun. 

Rami Al Ali

Over the past 27 years, Rami Al Ali has studied and mastered the meticulous craft and artisanship that defines what it means to be a couturier. For Spring 2023, he took this premise and applied it to a collection inspired by the Greek fable, ‘Golden Fleece’, presenting a glamorous fleet of pastel gowns aimed to alter our idea of what contemporary femininity looks like.

Construction was at the core of Al Ali’s collection with tedious details such as hand-beaded motifs and gold-embossed bodices enhancing each design. These ornate pieces created a dance for the eye as you attempted to catch all of these nuances in one passing view. The fabric was perfectly shaped, molded into petals, pressed into pleats and romantically draped in order to create waves of movement whilst other portions of the designs were sculpted and rigid resulting in a seamless combination of architecture and art.

For brides who are planning out their wedding wardrobes, exquisite evening wear and designer wedding dresses often go hand-in-hand. Rather than wearing one wedding gown throughout the entire day, many brides will slip into a different gown for the wedding reception; and some have multiple dress changes throughout the entire evening, expressing themselves with a full-on bridal fashion parade.

Once the wedding ceremony has concluded and traditional wedding photos have been taken, brides have the opportunity to experiment with the more artistic side of fashion. Reception and afterparty gowns may fall within the bridal realm of white and cream-colored fabrics; or brides may take a completely different turn with stunning black evening gowns and red carpet-worthy showstoppers. In the realm of couture gowns and the top evening wear looks for Fall 2022, Jean-Louis Sabaji continues to reign supreme.

Originally from Lebanon, Jean-Louis Sabaji made his grand entrance into the international fashion market by showcasing incredible collections of dramatic gowns and unique details. His brand was founded in Beirut a decade ago, and Sabaji’s name has since become synonymous with high-fashion and surrealism. It is his use of surrealist elements, in particular, that has set him apart from the wave of talented fashion designers who emerged from Lebanon around the same time.

“As young designers, and to keep the good name of the country which was built by the likes of Elie [Saab] and Zuhair [Murad], we should revolutionize and modernize the fashion industry,” says Sabaji. “We have to carve our own path.”

Sabaji continues to carve the most stunning path through the bridal and evening wear categories with his Fall 2022 collection – each gown, offering a gorgeous second wedding look option for receptions and afterparties. Numbering each of his gowns, couture No. 9 is comprised of a sheer black gown with built-in gloves embroidered with white silk threads and microbeads. It is completed with a cascading skirt of silk organza.

The collection also features several gowns with a scallop shell corset, adding an air of fantasy, playfulness, and a siren-like quality. Couture look No. 17 would be fitting for brides who want to go for a Venus vibe, as it features a glistening gold shell corset made of solid brass that has been studded with crystals. It is worn over a draped skirt made of gold foiled silk tulle.

Other ocean elements have been woven throughout the Fall 2022 collection, from coral prints, to nautical rope, to an all-white evening gown made of pearl white silk. Seahorses have even made a whimsical appearance in couture gown No. 34. This ornate gown is made of white silk crepe and displays a statement-making seahorse that has been crafted from embroidered crystals, glass beads, macro sequins, and metallic threadwork.

Wearing any couture gown by Jean-Louis Sabaji as a second wedding dress is the ultimate example of “wedding meets fashion.”
